Dallas Soil and Water Conservation District

The Dallas Soil and Water Conservation District was organized May 10, 1946 by local landowners who wanted to provide leadership in helping people improve, conserve and sustain the soil and water resources of Dallas County.

The Dallas Soil and Water Conservation District is governed by five commissioners who are elected at general elections on a nonpartisan basis for four-year terms.  Only one commissioner may reside in any single township. Current commissioners are listed at the bottom of the page.

The district works closely with a number of local, state, and federal agencies, as well as with local groups and organizations.

In particular, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, the Division of Soil Conversation and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service have close ties.  The district also works with the Extension Service, Department of Natural Resources, County Conservation Department, Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, Farm Service Agency, Conservation Districts of Iowa, and the County Supervisors.

The Dallas Soil and Water Conservation District is a legal subdivision of state government.  Commissioners are responsible for carrying out state laws and programs.

These include:

Sediment Control Law Conservation Cost-Sharing Water Quality Protection Projects Resource Enhancement and Protection

Districts also play a key role in carrying out federal programs including:

  • The Conservation Reserve Program
  • The Environmental Quality Incentives Program
  • Conservation Compliance
  • The Wetlands Reserve Program

Districts offer services without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, political beliefs or marital status.
